1 Whoever R226 believes that Jesus is the Christ F30 is born R227F31 of God, and whoever loves the Father F32 loves R228 the child born F31 of Him. 2 By R229 this we know that we R230 love the children of God, when we love God and observe F33 His commandments. 3 For this R231 is the love of God, that we keep R232 His commandments; and His R233 commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born R234F34 of God overcomes R235 the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.
5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes R236 that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the One who came by R237 water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with F35 the water only, but with F35 the water and with F35 the blood. It is the R238 Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three R239 that testify: 8 the F36 Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in F37 agreement. 9 If R240 we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He R241 has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has R242 the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made R243 Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal R244 life, and this R245 life is in His Son. 12 He R246 who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
This Is Written That You May Know
13 These R247 things I have written to you who believe R248 in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal R249 life. 14 This is the R250 confidence which we have before F38 Him, that, if R251 we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we R252 know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
16 If anyone sees his brother committing F39 a sin not leading to death, he R253 shall ask and GodF40 will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There R254 is a sin leading to death; I R255 do not say that he should make request for this. 17 All R256 unrighteousness is sin, and there R257 is a sin not leading to death.
18 We R258 know that no R259 one who is born F41 of God sins; but He who was born F41 of God keeps R260 him, and the R261 evil one does not touch R262 him. 19 We R263 know that we R264 are of God, and that the R265 whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we R266 know that the R267 Son of God has come, and has given R268 us understanding so that we may know Him R269 who is true; and we are R270 in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This R271 is the true God and eternal R272 life.
