1 Therefore, R239 I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow R240 elder and witness R241 of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker R242 also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the R243 flock of God among you, exercising oversight not R244 under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not R245 for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording R246 it over those F78 allotted to your charge, but proving F79 to be examples R247 to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd R248 appears, you will receive the unfading R249 crown R250F80 of glory. 5 You R251 younger men, likewise, be R252 subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility R253 toward one another, for GOD R254 IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.
6 Therefore humble R255 yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety R256 on Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be R257 of sober spirit, be R258 on the alert. Your adversary, the R259 devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, R260 seeking someone to devour. 9 But R261F81 resist him, firm R262 in your faith, knowing that the R263 same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren F82 who are in the world. 10 After you have suffered for R264 a little while, the God R265 of all grace, who called R266 you to His eternal R267 glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, R268 confirm, R269 strengthen and establish you. 11 To R270 Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
12 Through Silvanus, R271 our faithful brother (for F83 so I regard him), I R272 have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the R273 true grace of God.
