1 Now as to the times R172 and the epochs, brethren, you have R173 no need of anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that the R174 day of the Lord will F53 come just R175 like a thief in the night. 3 While they are saying, "Peace R176 and safety!" then destruction R177F54 will F55 come upon them suddenly like labor R178 pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, R179 that the day would overtake you like R180F56 a thief; 5 for you are all sons R181 of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; R1826 so then let us not sleep R183 as others R184F57 do, but let us be alert and sober. R185F587 For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk R186 at night. 8 But since we R187 are of the day, let us be R188 sober, F59 having put on the breastplate R189 of faith R190 and love, and as a helmet, R191 the hope R192 of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, R193 but for obtaining R194 salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who R195 died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore encourage F60 one another and build R196 up one another, just as you also are doing.
Christian Conduct
12 But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate R197F61 those who R198 diligently labor among you, and have R199 charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, F6213 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live R200 in peace with one another. 14 We urge you, brethren, admonish the R201 unruly, F63 encourage the R202 fainthearted, help the R203 weak, be patient R204 with everyone. 15 See that no R205 one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek R206 after that which is good for one another and for all people. 16 Rejoice R207 always; 17 pray R208 without ceasing; 18 in everything give R209 thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do R210 not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise prophetic R211 utterances. F6421 But examine R212 everything carefully; hold R213 fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every form F65 of evil.
23 Now may R214 the God of peace Himself R215 sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit R216 and soul and body be preserved complete, without R217 blame at the R218 coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful R219 is He who calls R220 you, and He also will bring it to pass.
