1 Finally R123 then, brethren, R124 we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk R125F40 and please R126 God (just as you actually do walk), F40 that you excel R127 still more. 2 For you know what commandments we gave you by F41the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain R128 from sexual F42 immorality; 4 that each R129 of you know how to possess F43 his own vessel R130F44 in sanctification and honor, R1315 not in lustful R132F45 passion, like the Gentiles who do R133 not know God; 6and that no man transgress and defraud R134 his brother in R135 the matter because the R136 Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told R137 you before and solemnly warned you.7 For God R138 has not called us for the R139 purpose of impurity, but in F46 sanctification. 8 So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives R140 His Holy Spirit to you.
9 Now as to the love R141 of the brethren, you have R142 no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught R143 by God to love one another; 10 for indeed you R144 do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to excel R145 still more, 11 and to make it your ambition to R146 lead a quiet life and attend R147 to your own business and work R148 with your hands, just as we commanded you, 12 so that you will behave R149F47 properly toward outsiders R150 and not R151F48 be in any need.
Those Who Died in Christ
13 But we R152 do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are R153 asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the R154 rest who have no R155 hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even R156 so God will bring with Him those R157 who have fallen asleep in F49 Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by R158 the word of the Lord, that we R159 who are alive and F50 remain until the R160 coming of the Lord, will not precede those R161 who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself R162 will R163 descend from heaven with a shout, R164F51 with the voice of theR165 archangel and with the trumpet R166 of God, and the R167 dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we R168 who are alive and F52 remain will be caught R169 up together with them in R170 the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be R171 with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
