1 Now the R273 LORD said to Abram, "Go F176 forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father's house, To the land which I will show you; 2 And I R274 will make you a great nation, And I R275 will bless you, And make your name great; And so you R276F177 shall be a blessing; 3 And I R277 will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses F178 you I will curse. F179 And R278 in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."
4 So Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him; and Lot R279 went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions R280 which they had accumulated, and the R281 persons F180 which they had acquired in Haran, and they set F181 out for the land of Canaan; thus R282 they came to the land of Canaan.
6 Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, R283 to the oak F182 of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land. 7 The LORD appeared R284 to Abram and said, "To R285 your descendants F183 I will give this land." So he built an R286 altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him. 8 Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel R287 on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the LORD and called R288 upon the name of the LORD. 9 Abram journeyed on, continuing toward the R289 Negev. F184
10 Now there was a R290 famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe R291 in the land. 11 It came about when he came F185 near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, "See now, I know that you are a beautiful R292F186 woman; 12 and R293 when the Egyptians see you, they will say, `This is his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 "Please say that you are my R294 sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I R295F187 may live on account of you."
14 It came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw F188 that the woman was very beautiful. 15 Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the R296 woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16 Therefore he R297 treated Abram well for her sake; and gave R298F189 him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels. 17 But the LORD struck R299 Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, "What R300 is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 "Why did you say, `She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here F190 is your wife, take her and go." 20 Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted F191 him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.
1 So Abram went up from Egypt to the R301 Negev, F192 he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him. 2 Now Abram was very R302 rich in livestock, in silver and in gold. 3 He went on F193 his journeys from the Negev F194 as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between R303 Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place of the altar R304 which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
5 Now Lot, R305 who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. 6 And the R306 land could not sustain F195 them while F196 dwelling together, for R307 their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together. 7 And R308 there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. Now the R309 Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land. 8 So R310 Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers. 9 "Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left."
10 Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley R311F197 of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere--this was before the LORD destroyed R312 Sodom and Gomorrah--like the R313 garden of the LORD, like R314 the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar. R31511 So Lot chose for himself all the valley F198 of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other. 12 Abram settled F199 in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled F199 in the R316 cities of the valley, F200 and moved his tents as far as Sodom. 13 Now the R317 men of Sodom were wicked exceedingly F201 and sinners R318 against the LORD.
14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Now R319 lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward R320 and southward and eastward and westward; 15 for R321 all the land which you see, I R322 will give it to you and to your descendants F202 forever. 16 "I will make your descendants F203 as R323 the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants F203 can also be numbered. 17 "Arise, walk R324 about the land through its length and breadth; for I R325 will give it to you." 18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks R326F204 of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an R327 altar to the LORD.
1 After these things the R368 word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do R369 not fear, Abram, I am a R370 shield to you; Your F232 reward R371 shall be very great."
2 Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am F234 childless, and the heir F235 of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3 And Abram said, "Since F236 You have given no offspring F237 to me, one F238 born R372 in my house is my heir." 4 Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir; but R373 one who will come forth from your own body, F239 he shall be your heir." 5 And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count R374 the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So R375 shall your descendants F240 be." 6 Then R376 he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.
7 And He said to him, "I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur R377 of the Chaldeans, to give R378 you this land to possess F241 it." 8 He said, "O Lord GOD, how R379 may I know that I will possess F243 it?" 9 So He said to him, "Bring F244 Me a three year old heifer, and a three year old female goat, and a three year old ram, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon." 10 Then he brought F245 all these to Him and cut R380 them in F246 two, and laid each half opposite the other; but he did R381 not cut the birds. 11 The birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
12 Now when the sun was going down, a R382 deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, terror F247 and great darkness fell upon him. 13 God said to Abram, "Know for certain that your R383 descendants F248 will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where F249 they R384 will be enslaved and oppressed four R385 hundred years. 14 "But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out with R386 many F250 possessions. 15 "As for you, you R387 shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. 16 "Then in the R388 fourth generation they will return here, for the R389 iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete."
17 It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which passed R390 between these pieces. 18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To R391 your descendants F251 I have given this land, From the R392 river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates: 19 the R393 Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite 20 and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim 21 and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite."
1 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the R412 LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God F271 Almighty; R413 Walk before Me, and be blameless. R414F2722 "I will establish F273 My covenant R415 between Me and you, And I will multiply R416 you exceedingly." 3 Abram fell R417 on his face, and God talked with him, saying,
4 "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, And you will be the father of a multitude R418 of nations. 5 "No longer shall your name be called Abram, F274 But your R419 name shall be Abraham; F275 For I R420 have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 "I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings R421 will come forth from you.
7 "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants F276 after you throughout their generations for an everlasting R422 covenant, to R423 be God to you and to R424 your descendants F276 after you. 8 "I R425 will give to you and to your descendants F277 after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I R426 will be their God." 9 God said further to Abraham, "Now as for you, you R427 shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants F278 after you throughout their generations. 10 "This R428 is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants F279 after you: every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 "And you R429 shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12 "And every male among you who is eight R430 days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants. F28013 "A servant who is born in your house or who R431 is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised; thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 "But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut R432 off from his people; he has broken My covenant."
15 Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah F281 shall be her name. 16 "I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a R433 son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings R434 of peoples will come F282 from her." 17 Then Abraham fell R435 on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will R436 Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?" 18 And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before You!" 19 But God said, "No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a R437 son, and you shall call his name Isaac; F283 and I R438 will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants F284 after him. 20 "As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will R439 make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. He R440 shall become F285 the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great R441 nation. 21 "But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, R442 whom Sarah R443 will bear to you at this season next year." 22 When He finished talking with him, God R444 went up from Abraham.
23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all the servants who were born R445 in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, as R446 God had said to him. 24 Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he R447 was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25 And Ishmael R448 his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 In the very same day Abraham was circumcised, and Ishmael his son. 27 All the men of his household, who were born R449 in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
1 Now it came about after these things, that God R567 tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" R568 And he said, "Here I am." 2 He said, "Take now your R569 son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, R570 and offer him there as a burnt R571 offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. 5 Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you." 6 Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid R572 it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. 7 Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb R573 for the burnt offering?" 8 Abraham said, "God will provide F375 for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So the two of them walked on together. 9 Then they came to the R574 place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the R575 altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid R576 him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
11 But the R577 angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." 12 He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I R578 know that you fear F376 God, since you have not withheld your R579 son, your only son, from Me." 13 Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. 14 Abraham called the name of that place The F377 LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD it R580 will be F378 provided."
15 Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven, 16 and said, "By R581 Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply R582 your seed F379 as the stars of the heavens and as the R583 sand which is on the seashore; and your R584 seed F379 shall possess the gate of their F380 enemies. 18 "In R585 your seed F381 all the nations of the earth shall be F382 blessed, because you have obeyed R586 My voice." 19 So R587 Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived at Beersheba.
20 Now it came about after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, "Behold, Milcah R588 also F383 has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram 22 and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel." 23 Bethuel became F384 the father of Rebekah; R589 these eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also F385 bore Tebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.
