1 Therefore you have no R58 excuse, everyone R59F23 of you who passes judgment, for in that which you R60 judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of God rightly F24 falls upon those who practice such things. 3 But do you suppose this, O R61 man, when F25 you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you think lightly of the R62 riches of His kindness R63 and tolerance R64 and patience, R65 not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But because F26 of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you R66 are storing up wrath for yourself in R67 the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who R68 WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: 7 to those who by perseverance R69 in doing good seek for glory R70 and honor and immortality, R71 eternal R72 life; 8 but to those who are selfishly R73 ambitious and do R74 not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. 9 There will be tribulation R75 and distress for F27 every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first R76 and also of the Greek, 10 but glory R77 and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first R78 and also to the Greek. 11 For there R79 is no partiality with God. 12 For all who have sinned without R80F28 the Law will also perish without F28 the Law, and all who have sinned under F29 the Law will be judged by F30 the Law; 13 for it is not R81 the hearers of F31 the Law who are just F32 before God, but the doers of F31 the Law will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles who do not have the F33 Law do instinctively R82F34 the things of the Law, these, not having the F33 Law, are a law to themselves, 15 in that they show the R83 work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, 16 on the day when, according R84 to my gospel, God R85 will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
17 But if you bear the name "Jew" and rely R86 upon F35 the Law and boast in God, 18 and know His will and approve R87F36 the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law, 19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20 a corrector F37 of the foolish, a teacher of the F38 immature, having in the Law the R88 embodiment of knowledge and of the truth, 21 you, therefore, who R89 teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach F39 that one shall not steal, do you steal? 22 You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob R90 temples? 23 You who boast R91 in F40 the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? 24 For "THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU," just as it is written. 25 For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice R94 the F41 Law; but if you are a transgressor of F42 the Law, your R95 circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26 So R96 if the R97 uncircumcised F43 man keeps R98 the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? 27 And he R99 who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge R100 you who though F44 having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of F45 the Law? 28 For he R101 is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. 29 But he R102 is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision R103 is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, R104 not by the letter; and R105 his praise is not from men, but from God.
1 Then what advantage F46 has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2 Great in every respect. First of all, that they R106 were entrusted with the oracles R107 of God. 3 What then? If some R108 did F47 not believe, their unbelief F48 will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? 4 May R109 it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a R110 liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED." 5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates R112F50 the righteousness of God, what R113 shall we say? The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I R114 am speaking in human terms.) 6 May R115 it never be! For otherwise, how will God R116 judge the world? 7 But if through my lie the R117 truth of God abounded to His glory, why R118 am I also still being judged as a sinner? 8 And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), "Let R119 us do evil that good may come"? Their F51 condemnation is just. 9 What then? Are R120F52 we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews R121 and Greeks R122 are all R123 under sin; 10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; 11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; 12 ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE." 13 "THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING," "THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS"; 14 "WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS"; 15 "THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD, 16 DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS, 17 AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN." 18 "THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES."
19 Now we know that whatever the Law R130 says, it speaks to those R131 who are under F53 the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all R132 the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by R133 the works of F54 the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through R134F55 the Law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now apart from F56 the Law the R135 righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed R136 by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness R137 of God through faith R138 in R139 Jesus Christ for all R140 those who F57 believe; for there R141 is no distinction; 23 for all have R142F58 sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by R143 His grace through the R144 redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a R145 propitiation F59 in R146F60 His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because F61 in the forbearance R147 of God He passed R148 over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has F62 faith in Jesus. 27 Where then is boasting? R149 It is excluded. By what R150 kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. 28 For F63 we R151 maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of F64 the Law. 29 Or is R152 God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since indeed God R153 who R154 will justify the circumcised F65 by F66 faith and the uncircumcised F67 through faith is R155 one. 31 Do we then nullify the F68 Law through faith? May R156 it never be! On the contrary, we establish R157 the Law.
