Holman Bible Dictionary

(behth-toh gahr' mah) Place name meaning, “house of Togarmah.” Listed in table of nations (Genesis 10:3 ) as son of Gomer and great grandson of Noah, Togarmah is a city mentioned in Assyrian and Hittite texts. It was north of Carchemish on an Assyrian trade route. It may be related to modern Gurun between the Halys and Euphrates Rivers. Ezekiel notes Togarmah's trading relations in horses and mules with Tyre (Ezekiel 27:14 ) and warned it of judgment along with Gog (Ezekiel 38:6 ).
