(moh' rih sshehth-gath) Place name meaning, “inheritance of Gath.” Home of the prophet Micah (Micah 1:1
). The prophet pictured his home as a bride receiving a going away gift from Jerusalem, her father, a warning of exile for Jerusalem's leaders and thus separation from their neighbors (Micah 1:14
). The city was apparently located near Philistine Gath and is usually identified with tell ej-Judeideh about twenty-two miles southwest of Jerusalem and nine miles east of Gath. Recently, this identification has been questioned. This may be the Gath Rehoboam fortified (2 Chronicles 11:8
). It may be Muchrashti of the Amarna letters.
