Rehum
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ree' huhm) Personal name meaning, “merciful, compassionate.” 1. One returning from Exile with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:2 ); the parallel (Nehemiah 7:7 ) reads Nehum. 2. Persian official with oversight of the Trans-Euphrates territory, including Judah. His protest of the rebuilding of the Jerusalem Temple and city walls resulted in suspension of the project (Ezra 4:8-24 ). 3 . Levite engaged in Nehemiah's repair of the wall (Nehemiah 3:17 ). 4 . Witness to Nehemiah's covenant (Nehemiah 10:25 ). 5 . Priest or priestly clan (Nehemiah 12:3 ), perhaps a corruption of Harim.
