Holman Bible Dictionary

Chronicles of Kings of Israel and of Judah

Sources of information to which the writer of 1,2Kings referred readers for more data concerning the various kings about whom he wrote. (See 1 Kings 14:19 .) These are not the biblical books 1,2Chronicles. They probably were official court records compiled for the use of each of the kings. Such records apparently were available to the author of Kings writing after the destruction of Jerusalem, but they are not available today. See Kings, 1,2 .
