Pretense to know and tell the future. It is a system of deception by which over-curious people are led to believe, or grow apprehensive over, assurances which mimic real prophecy; this form of divination is wrong because it is an inordinate craving to know what Providence has in store for one, and because such knowledge is obtainable only by powers not acting in accordance with Divine Providence. It is one of the commonest impostures.
