Aronstein, L.
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
or German chemist; born May 25, 1841, at Telgte, Westphalia; graduated from the University of Göttingen in 1864 with the degree of Ph.D. Two years later he became assistant in the physical department of the University of Leyden, Holland, and in 1867 accepted the post of director at the high school (Höhere Bürgerschule) of Breda, Brabant, where he also taught the natural sciences. In 1876 Aronstein was appointed professor of chemistry at the Royal Military Academy of Breda, and in 1894 was offered a similar appointment in the Royal Polytechnic School, Delft. He accepted the invitation, and has continued to occupy the position ever since. His papers, which are of a distinctly technical character, have appeared on the pages of Liebig's "Annalen der Chemie," published in Leipsic and Heidelberg; in the "Berichte der Deutschen Chemischen Gesellshaft," the "Recueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas," etc. Brief notices and reviews of Aronstein's contributions to chemistry may be found in the "Jahresbericht über die Fortschritte der Chemie," edited by F. Fittica, Brunswick.
