נִיסָן masc. Nisan, the first month of the Hebrews, called in the Pentateuch חֹדֶשׁ הָאָבִיב which see; Nehemiah 2:1; Esther 3:7 Syr., Chald., and Arab. id. Apparently נִיסָן is for נִיצָן, or נִצָּן and denotes the month of flowers, from נֵץ, נִצָּן a flower.
