Thayer's Expanded Definition

καῦσις, καύσεως, (καίω), burning, burning up: ἧς τό τέλος εἰς καῦσιν, the fate of which land (appointed it by God) is, to be burned up (by fire and brimstone from heaven cf. Deuteronomy 29:23), Hebrews 6:8; cf. Bleek at the passage (Herodotus, Plato, Isocrates, Plutarch, others; the Sept..)

P Lond 1166.14 (A.D. 42) (= III. p. 105) χωρὶς τοῦ παρασχέσθαι τοὺς ὁμολοῦντας (l. ὁμολογοῦντας) τὴν καῦσιν καθὼς πρόκειται, ib. 1177.74 (A.D. 113) (=111. p. 183) κ ̣α [ ]σεως λύχνων. Cf. from the inscrr. Chrest. I. 70.10 (B.C. 57–6) τάς τε θυσίας καὶ σπονδὰς καὶ καύσεις λύχνων. . . ἐπιτελοῦντες, Magn179.11 (ii/A.D.) τὰ ἐξ ἔθους καὶ ὡρισμένα ὑπὲρ τῆς καύσεως τῆς βαίτης (";bath";) δηνάρια χ ̄. For καυσμός cf.
