Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For this verb = ";foreknow,"; ";know previously,"; as in the Apocrypha (Sap 6.13 al.) and 2 Peter 3:17, cf. BGU IV. 1141.39 (B.C. 14) διὰ τὸ προε ̣γ ̣νωκέναι (corrected from προεγνωκώς) με περὶ τῶν δ ̣α ̣κ ̣τ ̣υ ̣λ ̣ι ̣δ ̣ι ̣ω ̣ν ̣. In 1 Peter 1:20 Hort (Comm. ad l.) thinks the meaning is rather ";designate before"; to a position or function.
