1. complete, perfect of its kind, suitable, exactly fitled, ἄ. ἀλλήλοισι σπόνδυλοι Hp. Art. 45; ἄρτια βάζειν speak to the purpose, Il. 14.92, Od. 8.240; ὅτι οἱ φρεσὶν ἄρτια ᾔδη thought things in accordance with him, was of the same mind with him, Il. 5.326, Od. 19.248; ἄρτια μήδεσθαι Pi. O. 6.94; meet, right, proper, Sol. 4.40, Thgn. 946; ἄ. εἴς τι well-suited for.., IG 14.889.7 (Sinuessa); ἀρτιωτάτην ἔχειν τάξιν most perfect, Philostr. VS 1.21.3.

III Adv. ἀρτίως just, newly, = cross ἄρτι, [ Epich. ] 251, freq. in S.
1. of present time, with pres., Aj. 678, OT 78, al.: with pf., OC 892, al.

For ἄ. = τέλειος, see Kaibel Praef 222 b.4 ἐτῶν ἀριθμὸν ὀγδοήκοντ᾽ ἀρτίων. In the difficult passage Herodas iv. 95, Nairn renders ἀρτίης μοίρης, ";adequate"; share. The companion adjectives help to define the word in Vettius Valens, p. 14.15, αἱ δὲ ϛ ̄ Ἀφρωδίτης (sc. μοῖραι) ἱλαραί, εὔτεχνοι, διαυγεῖς, ἄρτιοι, καθαροί, εὔχροοι. The adverb is found in P Lips I. 40iii. 16 (iv/v A.D.) where a scribe is directed ἀκολουθεῖν τῷ νυκτοστρατήγῳ ἀρτίως κατὰ πρόσταγμα τῆς σῆς [λ ]α [μ ]π [ρότητος ], and BGU III. 749.9 (Byz.) ἀπὸ νεομηνίας τοῦ ἀρτίως [? ἀρχομένου ] μηνός.
