Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

בַּרְזֶל m. iron, quadril. from the Ch. בְּרַו to transfix. with the addition of ל, compare כַּרְמֶל from כֶּרֶם, חַרְגַּל from חָרַג. Ch. בַּרְזֶל & פַּרְזֶל, Syr. ܦܰܪܙܠܳ. Genesis 4:22; Ezekiel 27:12, 19 Ezekiel 27:19, etc. It is often used to denote hardness and firmness, as שֵׁבֶט בַּרְזֶל of a hard rule, Psalms 2:9. Isaiah 48:4, גִּיד בַּרְזֶל עָרְפֶךָ “thy neck (is) an iron sinew,” said of the obstinacy of the people. Specially, an instrument of iron, Deuteronomy 27:5; Joshua 8:31; 2 Kings 6:5 a bond of iron, Psalms 105:18 fully כֶּבֶל בַּרְזֶל 149:8.
