Genesis 30:20, 
dowry; in Sabean proper name, see below זָבָד below; also in Palmyrene proper name נבוזבד Vog73and many others (זבד, זבדא, זבידא, זבדעתא, זבדבל = Ζαβδιβηλος, etc.): see Eut Sechs Inschr. aus Idalien p. 15), זְבָדַנִי אלהים אֹתִי זֶבֶד טוֺב Genesis 30:20 a (E), apparently in explanation of name Zebulun, compare Thes Di; another explanation in v b, see below זבל.
זָבַד once, Genesis 30:20, to endow, to bestow a gift; rightly rendered by the LXX. δεδώρηται. Vulg. dotavit. Comp. Ch., Saad., Abulw. In Arab. زبد has the same signification, see Jeuhari in Schult. Origg. Hebr. tom. i. page 49. Schultens is not to be followed in supposing this word to be only used by the Arabs of a gift of small value, and thus he has devised a new and abstruse explanation. This root is not found as such in Syriac, (see however Palmyr. Inser. No. 4, line 5, ) but the Zabians have the noun ܙܶܒܕܘܽܢܐܳ gift, see Cod. Nasar. iii. p. 26. The many proper names derived from this word, manifest its more frequent use in Hebrew.
