אֵיד m., prop. a burden, load, by which one is oppressed, or crushed; (root אוּד No. 2); whence

(1) heavy misfortune, calamity, Psalms 18:19; Job 21:30.

(2) destruction, ruin, Job 18:12, 21:17 30:12. אֵיד אֵל “destruction of God,” i.e. sent by God.
