Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נָזָה fut. apoc. וַיִּז and וַיֵּז, i.q. Arab. نزا to leap.

(1) to exult with joy, see Hiph.

(2) used of fluids, to be sprinkled, to spatter (fprißen), followed by עַל, אֶל upon, or at anything, Leviticus 14:7; 2 Kings 9:33; Isaiah 63:3.

Hiphil הִזָּה, fut. apoc. וַיַּז

(1) to cause to exult, i.e. to fill any one with joy; followed by עַל on account of something (comp. שָׂמַח עַל). Isaiah 52:15, כֵּן יַזֶּה גּוֹיִם רַבִּים עָלָיו “so shall he fill many people with joy because of himself.” Compare גִּיל בַּיהוָֹה. LXX. οὕτω θαυμάσονται ἔθνη πολλὰ ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, prob. taking יזה for ישא = יִשָּׂא in the phrase נָשָׂא פָנִים, which is commonly rendered in Greek by θαυμάζω. Syr., Vulg., Luth., shall he besprinkle many nations (see No. 2), i.e. he (my servant, the Messiah) shall purge them in his own blood; but this does not accord with the opposed verb שָׁמַם. [Does not the passage simply say that Christ shall sprinkle many nations, as if they were the water, and were scattered in drops?]

(2) to sprinkle water, blood, followed by עַל Exodus 29:21; Leviticus 5:9, 14:7 לִפְנֵי 4:17.
