  • Abel's Blood
'Refreshment in Refuge' from Gina Burgess

Arrogantly, I wrote a column about sin in the church and how to face it. When I wrote that, I was inspired by something Charles Stanley has said in one of his sermons several years ago. I think I have almost every note I've ever written while listening to a sermon. Those notes come in quite handy when facing problems and trials in everyday life as well as inspiration for my writings. I alluded to the problem in my church several weeks ago while everything was still raw. I did not want to write anything more specific until my wrath had cooled somewhat and I had spent lots of time in…

  • Christian Conformity
''Christ in You...'' from Dale Krebbs

There is a great mystery in the body of Christ. How can there be individualism and conformity at the same time - diversity in the midst of uniformity? The Apostle Paul states: "I THEREFORE, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called [with behavior that is a credit to the summons to God's service, Living as becomes you] with complete lowliness of mind (humility) and meekness (unselfishness, gentleness, mildness), with patience, bearing with one another and making allowances because you love…

Deuteronomy 15-16; Job 11; Acts 2:14-47:
This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel any loan they have made to a fellow Israelite. They shall not require payment from anyone among their own people, because the Lord 's time for canceling debts has been proclaimed. You may require payment from a foreigner, but you must cancel any debt your fellow Israelite owes you. However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your…

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening"
How heart-cheering to the believer is the delight which God has in his saints! We cannot see any reason in ourselves why the Lord should take pleasure in us; we cannot take delight in ourselves, for we often have to groan, being burdened; conscious of our sinfulness, and deploring our unfaithfulness; and we fear that God's people cannot take much delight in us, for they must perceive so much of our imperfections and our follies, that they may rather…

Proverbs 13:5 - A righteous man hates falsehood, But a wicked man acts disgustingly and shamefully.
Words to Ponder
There are two kinds of religious knowledge which, though intimately connected as cause and effect, may nevertheless be distinguished. These are the knowledge of the truth as it is in revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and the impression which that truth makes on the human mind when rightly apprehended. The first may be compared to the inscription or image on a seal, the other to the impression made by the seal on the wax. When that impression is clearly and distinctly made, we can understand, by contemplating it, the true inscription on the seal more satisfactorily, than by a direct view of the seal itself. Thus it is found that nothing tends more to confirm and elucidate the truths contained in the Word, than an inward experience of their efficacy on the heart. - Archibald Alexander (1772-1851)
