Your Sinful Life Is Redeemed By the Precious Blood of Jesus' Sacrifice

Monday, March 18, 2019

Archbishop Foley Beach

MESSAGE SUMMARY: It is not with perishable things like silver or gold that your life is redeemed by God, as the Apostle Peter tells us in 1 Peter 1:3b-6a: “. . . he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice . . .". Your sinful life is redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus' sacrifice -- a Lamb without blemish or defect. Jesus fulfilled God's New Covenant, which like God’s First Covenant with Abraham, called for the blood sacrifice of a perfect sacrificial Lamb. This sacrifice, of the New Covenant, was fulfilled for us through Jesus' Crucifixion and Resurrection. Jesus, as described by Paul, in 1 Corinthians 11:24-26, instituted the Passover meal for us through the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Through Communion, we remember Jesus’ substituting His death for all our sins as Jesus’ sacrificed His life for our lives – Jesus, our perfect sacrificial lamb, the Pascal Lamb, in His words of the first Holy Communion: “and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.".

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Hatred. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Love. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

“Whoever has the Son {Jesus} has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." - Sunday, March 17, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: "God gave us eternal life, and this {Eternal} life is in his Son {Jesus}. Whoever has the Son has {Eternal} life." (1 John 5:11). Jesus tells us in John 5:25-27: “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.”. If you believe in the name of the Son of God and know the Lord, you can be assured of forgiveness and salvation because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, His resurrection, and God’s Grace. As the author of 1 John tells us in 1 John 5:10-12: “Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.". Jesus is the only Way to Eternal Life.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! (Luke 11:13).

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Is Your Means for Eternal Life, If You Seek Him - Saturday, March 16, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus died for you and your sinful nature. It is through the death and resurrection of Jesus that you are offered the forgiveness of your sins and an inner healing in your life. In John 10:27-28, Jesus reiterates His commitment to those who commit their lives to Him and are His followers: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.". Some Christians mess up because Christians, too, are sinners; but Jesus gave you a pathway out from the burden of your sins. In Matthew 26:27-28, Jesus, again, reaffirmed His commitment to His followers through the Holy Eucharist: “And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’".

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will seek God’s perspective on my situation. For I know that in all things God works together for good to those of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (From Romans 8:28).

God Saved You so that You Can Be His Ambassador to Others - Friday, March 15, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: While blessing you so that you might be a blessing to other people; God has healed you so that you might bring God's healing powers to others. God has saved you so that you can be His ambassador to others. Jesus commissions you, as He commissioned His Apostles just before His Ascension, in Matthew 28;19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.". The Gospel is the answer; but, often, you keep this answer to yourself by not speaking and by the way that you live your life and communicate your faith. Walk the walk; talk the talk; and share Jesus with other people. Peter tells you, in 1 Peter 3:15, how you are to witness with the Gospel’s answer: “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Inconsistencies. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

“We May Receive Mercy and Find Grace to Help in Time of Need" - Thursday, March 14, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMESSAGE SUMMARYBecause Jesus was both human and God, He was tempted as a human; but Jesus did not sin. Therefore, you can have faith that Jesus is your source of Mercy and Grace in your times of sin and trouble! The author of Hebrews, in Hebrews 4:14-16, identifies Jesus, for Christians, as the sinless, yet tempted, God-Man who is our Great High Priest: “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Jesus is the perfect and Great High Priest; therefore, it is important to know that we can approach His Throne of Grace with confidence because Jesus is merciful. It is important to reflect upon Jesus being tempted as a human – like us. By his being tempted as our Great High Priest, we can receive mercy and find grace in our times of need.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Inadequacy. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Abundance. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

God Will Not Let You Be Tempted Beyond Your Ability to Avoid Sinning - Wednesday, March 13, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: Temptation is not sin; but yielding to temptation results in your sin. In Jesus' temptation, He has shown us how to face our temptations. When Jesus was tempted, He quoted Scripture; the most powerful weapon that God has given us – as Paul directed us in Ephesians 6:17-18: "In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God . . .”. Also, Paul, in 1 Corinthians 10:13, tells us that, like Jesus, all humans are tempted to sin; but, also like Jesus, God will not let us be tempted beyond our capability to respond to the temptation in sin: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.".

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I press on toward His goal for me. (Philippians 3:12f).  “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14).

Pray Humbly and “Trust in Thy {God’s} Manifold and Great Mercies” - Tuesday, March 12, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: We can say that "there but for the grace of God go I", but we are ALL sinners. James tells us in James 4:8,10: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.". We cannot pray and enter the "Throne Room of God" in our pride -- we can only enter the "Throne Room" as we humble ourselves before Jesus.

(NOTE: You can, also, refer to the “Prayer of Humble Access” in the Anglican Book of Common Prayer; 1662: “We do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.”).

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Anxiety. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Peace. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

Jesus “Has Borne Our Grief and Carried Our Sorrows”; Have You Asked Him to Cary Yours? - Monday, March 11, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: He {Jesus} desires to bring healing into your life. From Isaiah 53:4-5: “Surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes {i.e. wounds} we are healed.”.  What Jesus did for us brings healing to the body as well. God is in the healing business, and In Matthew 8:16-17, Jesus healed many at Peter’s house fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy: “That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.’”

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Loneliness. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Presence. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

For Your Salvation, God Expects Your Faith and Belief in Jesus’ Deity - Sunday, March 10, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus is the firstborn of all creation; and in Him, all the fullness of Deity lives in bodily form. This position, of Jesus’ Deity, is quite different from the teachings of Islam, Judaism, Mormonism, the New Age, or the Universalist. These statements, from Paul to the Colossians in Colossians 1:15, solidifies Jesus’ Deity: “He {Jesus} is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." form the crux of Christianity. In Jesus, God fully dwells. Again, in Colossians 2:9-10, Paul reminds us of Jesus’ ultimate Deity: “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.". God expects your faith and belief in Jesus’ Deity in return for God’s forgiveness that results from Jesus’ sacrificial Crucifixion, Resurrection, and God’s Grace.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9).

By Jesus’ “Obedience the Many {and You} will be Made Righteous” - Saturday, March 9, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: The purpose of Jesus’ death on the cross was to sacrifice Himself to provide us a sacrifice, God’s required blood sacrifice, for our sins which we could not do for ourselves. In Romans 5:18-21, Paul succinctly explains Jesus’ unique role, that only Jesus could play, in our Justification and Salvation – a role that begins with God’s Grace: “Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.". Jesus’ blood made His death, which He experienced for us, provide restitution; make atonement; and pay the penalty of our sins. Someone must pay for our sins – either we must pay, or Jesus does pay. If we pay for our sins, it means our eternal condemnation and alienation from God, If Jesus pays for our sins, it means personal forgiveness and an eternal personal relationship with God. Jesus death and Resurrection were for the forgiveness of our sins.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be ashamed of the Gospel. I will not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes (including me). (From Romans 1:160
