En esto se manifestó el amor de Dios - Es decir, de manera eminente, o esto fue la prueba más evidente de ello. El apóstol no quiere decir que se haya manifestado de ninguna otra manera, sino que este fue un ejemplo tan prominente de su amor, que todas las demás manifestaciones de él parecieron absortas y perdidas en esto.

Porque ese Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito ... - Vea las notas en Juan 3:16.

Para que podamos vivir a través de él - Él murió para que tengamos vida eterna a través de los méritos de su sacrificio. La "medida" de ese amor, entonces, que se manifestó en el don de un Salvador, se encuentra,

(1) En el valor del alma;

(2) En su exposición a la muerte eterna;

(3) En la grandeza del regalo;

(4) En la grandeza de sus penas por nosotros; y,

(5) En la bendición inmortal y la alegría a la que nos criará.

¿Quién puede estimar todo esto? Todas estas cosas se magnificarán a medida que nos acerquemos a la eternidad; y en esa eternidad a la que vamos, ya sea salvos o perdidos, tendremos una visión cada vez mayor del maravilloso amor de Dios.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Versículo 9. En esto se manifestó el amor de Dios.  La misión de Jesucristo fue la prueba más plena de que Dios podía dar, o que el hombre podía recibir, de su amor infinito por el mundo.

Para que podamos vivir a través de él.  El mundo entero fue sentenciado a muerte a causa del pecado; y todo individuo estaba muerto en sus delitos y pecados; y Jesús vino a morir en lugar del mundo, y a dar vida a todo creyente , para que todos pudieran vivir para aquel que murió y resucitó por ellos. Esta es otra fuerte alusión a  Juan 3:16 : Tanto amó Dios al mundo, que dio a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna ; donde se solicita al lector ver la nota.
