1 Around this time, Hizkiyahu became ill to the point of death. Yesha‘yahu the prophet, the son of Amotz, came and said to him, "Here is what Adonai says: ‘Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not live.'" 1 In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Set thy house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. 1 At that time Hezekiah became sick and almost died. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to see him and told him, "The Lord says, ‘You will die soon, so you should tell your family what they should do when you die. You will not get well.'" 1 In those days was Hizkiyahu sick to death. El rey de Asiria en 714 y 713 a.C. fue Sargón (a. C. 721-705). Si entonces se debe confiar en las cronologías bíblicas y asirias que coinciden exactamente en el año de la toma de Samaria (721 a.C.), el rey de Asiria aquí debe haber sido Sargón. Se puede conjeturar que se había ofendido por algo en la conducta de Ezequías, y que había amenazado a Jerusalén por este tiempo (compárese Isaías 20:6). Sin embargo, no hay evidencia de hostilidades reales entre Judea y Asiria durante el reinado de Sargón.

Versículo 2 Reyes 20:6 . Añadiré a tus días quince años. Este es el primer y único hombre que fue informado del término de su vida. ¿Y fue esto un privilegio? Seguramente no. Si Ezequías estaba apegado a la vida, como parece que lo estaba, ¡cómo debe afectarle a su mente marcar los años que se hunden! Sabía que iba a morir al cabo de quince años; y ¿cómo debía sentirse al final de cada año, cuando veía que se le cortaba tanto la vida? Debía sentir necesariamente mil muertes al temer una. Creo que no faltaría nada para completar la miseria de los hombres, excepto el lugar de tormento, si se les informara del momento preciso en que sus vidas deben terminar. Dios, en su abundante misericordia, ha ocultado esto a sus ojos.
