Verses 1-9

Psalms 28:0

Theme - The Lord YHWH hears our cries when we pray, and He gives us strength to overcome.

Psalms 28:1 (A Psalm of David.) Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

Psalms 28:1 “Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me” Comments The psalmist had watched the pagans around him pray to their idols, amazed as these people worshipped their silent gods. These idols of wood and stone glared back at their worshippers without having heard a sound, for their have no ears, no eyes, and no existence. The psalmist knew his God was the true and living God, a God who cares and reached down and answers prayer.

Psalms 28:1 “lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.” - Comments Hell is a place where God no longer hears the cries of mankind. Yes, they cry out and scream for mercy for eternity, but there is none to hear, no one cares. As the rich man cried out for help in Luke 16:22-31, his prayers were denied.

Psalms 28:2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.

Psalms 28:2 “when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle” - Comments - Jack Taylor gave an illustration of how he is moved emotionally when he goes into a house and his grandchild lifts his hands up to him to be picked up (Psalms 63:4; Psalms 119:48; Psalms 134:2). [42]

[42] Jack Taylor, “Sermon Series on Praise,” Southcliff Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas, September, 1982.

Psalms 63:4, “Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.”

Psalms 119:48, “My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.”

Psalms 134:2, “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.”
