"Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who – reported it to the king –" (v. 22)

For Reading and Meditation:
     Esther 2:21-23

We turn from the excitement and atmosphere of the palace and Esther's selection to another stage and development in the story. Now that God has successfully brought Esther into favor with the king, His purpose is to do exactly the same for Mordecai. But how could an unknown Jew such as Mordecai become a favored subject of the king? Watch and see how it comes about. One day, as Mordecai sits outside the palace, he happens to overhear two palace guards plotting to assassinate the king. Ordinarily, Mordecai would have been unable to convey this news to the palace. The matter was deadly serious as the guards, being keepers of the palace doors, had not only motive but opportunity. There was no time to be lost if the king's life was to be saved. Mordecai quickly passes a message to Esther who, in turn, informs the king of the situation. An immediate investigation is made, the guards are interrogated, and once their guilt is established they are hanged. After the hanging, a record is made of the whole episode, right down to the name of Mordecai who had first informed about the matter. That record, as we shall see, was also to play a strategic part in the bringing about of God's purposes. How painstaking and precise is divine sovereignty. Every "i" is dotted and every "t" is crossed. Some see sovereignty as concerned only with the steering of the stars but, believe me, sometimes it has to do with such seemingly trivial things as writing a letter, or catching a certain train. I say again - nothing is too trivial for Omnipotence.

Father, thank You for reminding me that the tiniest details of my life are important to You. I am grateful beyond words that You guide not only the great and mighty planets but the tiny movements of my life. Thank you dear Father. Amen.
