מַרְחֶשְׁוָן

I wish everyone were like me; but each has his own gift from God, one this, another that (1 Corinthians 7:7).

Ven ale mentshen zollen tsien oif eyn zait, volt zich di velt ibergekert is Yiddish for "If all men pulled in one direction, the world would topple over."

Students imitate their teachers. We sometimes imitate TV ads. We tend to imitate whatever has benefited others, thinking it will benefit us.

In the above Scripture, Rabbi Sha'ul (Saul; i.e., Paul) uses the word thelo, which may be translated in this context as "I wish" or "I desire." And what was Sha'ul's desire? That everyone be as he is; in this case, unmarried and thereby able to serve the Lord with all of his time and devotion.

What follows, however, is important. Each person has his or her own charis (gift) that befits who that person is, according to the design of the Creator. Everyone cannot do the same work. Thus, the distinctiveness of our labors, although knit together with others, is still important in Messiah's Kingdom.

...thank the Lord for giving me work and gifts in his Kingdom which are important and significant.
