אֱלוּל

What is revealed is God's anger from heaven against all the godliness and wickedness (Romans 1:18).

Most people have a hard time believing in the wrath of God. We are more comfortable envisioning God as a benevolent grandfather-type who pats his erring children on the head, smiles beneficently and encourages us to run along and do better. When we have a low or diminished view of sin, we have a low or diminished view of God.

One day when I was witnessing in downtown Chicago, a woman approached and declared defiantly, "I am a good person. I can't believe in a God who would judge someone for making a few mistakes." God doesn't change to suit our opinions. He wasn't created in our image; we were created in his. Some people have a "checkout counter" theology; they think that they can choose the items they like and leave behind the ones they don't.

Moshe Rabeynu (Moses our Teacher) didn't come down from the mountain carrying the Ten Suggestions. The standard that God set forth in his Word is nonnegotiable. "Thou shalt not." There's not a lot of gray area there. Micah declares, "Human being, you have already been told what is good, what ADONAI demands of you.... " (Micah 6:8) There's no mystery here. Instead of minimizing sin, we must remember God's wrath. Only then can we truly understand and rejoice in the salvation he provides through Yeshua.

...refuse to minimize the power of sin or the wrath of God. I will hold my life up to the standard of righteousness revealed in his Word and seek to turn from sin through faith in Yeshua the Messiah.
