Voice of the Lord
Obey your leaders (Hebrews 13:17).
Liberty is a value embraced by many peopleliberty from the restrictive social and moral codes of the past; liberty from grades in school; liberty from the consequences of extra-marital sexual relations, liberty from work and from want; liberty from authorities and accountability.
Liberty and freedom are attractive words. However, the meaning of liberty and freedom are used quite differently in the biblical context than they are used today. Both the secularist libertine and the committed follower of Yeshua seek a position where our desires are fulfilled and where we can experience spontaneous action. However, the content of that action is quite different.
The libertine secularist seeks freedom from all restrictions. The talmid (disciple) of Yeshua seeks to be so transformed by the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) that conformity to Torah is the desire of his heart. What he automatically desires is what God desires. This is true liberty. "Bondage" is to be kept from serving God according to his Torah.
Let us be free to obey the Lord, and let us encourage others to do the same.
...run in the path of God's mitzvot (commands), for he has set my heart free.
