Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life
The ability to communicate is what has made civilization fluorish. Man has the ability to accomplish great things, and has, but those things would have been frustratingly difficult were it not for the ability to communicate with others. A verbal and written language enables us to share ideas and concepts which have been of immense importance for the development of what we call a civilized world.
However, not all communication is either written or verbal. Sign language is a system of communication which transcends language. While there are different dialects of sign language, amazingly people from different areas of the world can effectively communicate through sign language despite the fact that neither can read the other's written language.
Sign language can be amusing as when someone gets excited and starts thinking faster than their hands can translate. It can also be graceful as the movements flow together to form a beautiful expression from the whole body. And it can be frightening when it conveys the anger or malice held by one for another. As in any laguage, emotion plays a part in the depth of the expression.
One of the greatest expressions of communication ever attempted was when God, a spiritual being, tried to directly communicate with Man, a physical being. He had tried talking to Man and, though moderately succesful, it was not quite as effective as He had hoped. So He tried a little more personal approach in hopes that Man would finally understand what He had to say.
"God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds." Hebrews 1:1, 2 It had come to the need for the personal touch and God sent a person to touch Man. Jesus was God's greatest communication. Man finally got to see what God meant when He said He loved Man. Jesus is the universal sign language for love at its greatest.
