Bithynia

Holman Bible Dictionary

(bihtheen' ihuh) A district in northern Asia Minor that Paul's missionary company desired to enter with the gospel (Acts 16:7 ). The Holy Spirit prevented them from doing so and directed them instead to Macedonia. Though no record exists of how the Christian faith took root in Bithynia, believers lived there during the first century. Those to whom 1Peter was addressed included persons in Bithynia (1 Peter 1:1 ).
