Camel's Hair

Holman Bible Dictionary

A very coarse material was woven from the hair of a camel's back and hump. A finer material was woven from the hair taken from underneath the animal. John the Baptist wore coarse camel's hair (Mark 1:6 ). Jesus contrasted John's cloak to the “soft raiment” of the members of the court (Matthew 11:8 ). Wearing a hairy mantle was the mark of a prophet (Zechariah 13:4; compare 2 Kings 1:8 ).
