Caphtor

Holman Bible Dictionary

(cayf' tawr) The original home of the Philistines (Amos 9:7 ). In Jeremiah 47:4 and in Deuteronomy 2:23 , its inhabitants are called Caphtorim (compare Genesis 10:14 ). Though several places have at times been proposed for its location, current scholarship is generally agreed that Caphtor is the island of Crete. See Philistines; Crete .
