Caul

Holman Bible Dictionary

The part of the liver which appears to be left over or form an appendage to the liver, according to KJV. Other translations refer to the “lobe” (NAS), “covering” (NIV), or “appendage” (NRSV) of the liver. See Exodus 29:13 . In Hosea 13:8 KJV speaks of the “caul of their hearts,” which modern translations render more freely. The Hebrew apparently refers to the chest cavity in which the heart is located. KJV also uses “caul” to translate a rare Hebrew word in Isaiah 3:18 taken by modern linguists to mean, “headbands.”
