Elihoreph

Holman Bible Dictionary

(ehl' ih hoh' rehf) Personal name meaning, “my God repays,” or “my God is the giver of the autumn harvest,” or borrowed from Egyptian, “Apis is my God.” One of Solomon's two royal scribes with his brother Ahijah (1 Kings 4:3 ). Their father may have been Egyptian. The name could indicate that Solomon's father-in-law (1 Kings 3:1 ) had helped him organize and staff his administration. Shisha, the name of Elihorep's father, is the Egyptian word for scribe. REB takes Elihoreph as a title: “adjutant-general.”
