(gee' dawr) Place name meaning, “wall.” 1. Town in hill country of Judah allotted to tribe of Judah (Joshua 15:58 ). It is located at khirbet Judur three miles north of Hebron and Beth-zur and west of Tekoa. The genealogy of Judah in 1 Chronicles 4:1 includes city names among the list of “sons.” In 1 Chronicles 4:4 , Penuel is the father or perhaps founder of the city. 2. In 1 Chronicles 4:18 Jered is the father of Gedor. Its location is disputed. See Socho; Zanoah . The Gedor in 1 Chronicles 4:39 probably represents an early copyist's change from Gerar, which is quite similar in appearance in Hebrew and appears in the earliest Greek translation. If Gedor is the original reading, its location in the tribal allotment of Simeon ( 1 Chronicles 4:24 ) is not known. A Benjaminite from Gedor had two sons in David's wilderness army (1 Chronicles 12:7 ). This could be a city in Benjamin of unknown location or one of other Gedors discussed above. A member of the tribe of Benjamin was named Gedor (1 Chronicles 8:31 ). See Geder; Gederoth .
