Gehazi
Holman Bible Dictionary
(gih hay' zi) Personal name meaning, “valley of vision” or “goggle-eyed.” Servant of the prophet Elisha (2 Kings 4:12 ). The Bible portrays him as a man of questionable character. On one occasion he tried to force a grieving woman away from the prophet (2 Kings 4:27 ). Despite the prophet's commission, he could not restore a child to life (2 Kings 4:31 ). Later he tried to secure for himself the reward Elisha had refused from Naaman the Syrian and then lied to Elisha (2 Kings 5:20-25 ). For his duplicity with regard to Naaman, Gehazi was stricken with the disease of which Naaman had been cured. Gehazi did testify to the king of Elisha's good deeds and helped the widow get her lands restored (2 Kings 8:1-6 ). See Elisha .
