Girgashite
Holman Bible Dictionary
(guhr' guh sshite) Tribal name possibly meaning, “sojourner with a deity.” One of the list of original tribal groups inhabiting Canaan, traced back to Canaan, son of Ham and grandson of Noah (Genesis 10:16 ). The Ugaritic texts from Ras Shamra also apparently mention them. Nothing else is known of them except the existence of various groups in Palestine at the time of the conquest fits information from the Amarna letters and other Near Eastern sources about the independent nature of the various city-states in Canaan before Israel entered.
