Habitation

Holman Bible Dictionary

Dwelling place; home; KJV translation of ten different Hebrew words. Habitation is used for the dwellings of humans (Exodus 35:3; Isaiah 27:10 ) and of birds (Psalm 104:12 ). Of special interest are references to the habitation of God. God's habitation is designated as heaven (Deuteronomy 26:15; 2 Chronicles 30:27 ), the Temple (2 Chronicles 29:6 ), or Jerusalem (Psalm 46:4 ). Jeremiah 50:7 pictures the Lord as the dwelling place of justice or “their true pasture” (NIV; compare Psalm 71:3; Psalm 91:9 ). Ephesians 2:22 speaks of believers as the “habitation of God through the Spirit.” Revelation 18:2 announces the fall of “Babylon,” which “is become the habitation of devils.”
