Lace

Holman Bible Dictionary

An ornamental braid used as a trim. Blue or purple cords were used to fasten the high priest's breastpiece to the ephod (Exodus 28:28; Exodus 39:21 ) and the golden plate to his turban (Exodus 28:37; Exodus 39:31 ). The translation lace (KJV, RSV) is frequently replaced with cord (NAS, NIV, NRSV, TEV) or braid (REB). The underlying Hebrew term is used elsewhere for a belt or signet cord (Genesis 38:18 ), for the cords or tassels on the corners of garments (Numbers 15:38 ), or for strands of fiber (Judges 16:9 ).
