Holman Bible Dictionary
Term used by several modern translations (NAS, REB, NRSV) to designate the inhabitants of Malta (Acts 28:2 ). Barbarous people (KJV) reflects the Greek barbaroi which designates the islanders as non-Greek speaking. NIV reads, —”islanders.”
