Ono

Holman Bible Dictionary

(oh' noh) Name meaning, “grief.” Benjaminite town about seven miles southeast of Joppa. The town appears in a list of Pharoah Thutmose III (1490-1436 B.C.). The Mishnah regarded Ono as fortified since the time of Joshua. The city was rebuilt by Shemed, a descendant of Benjamin (Chron. John 8:12 ). Ono was home to some of those who returned from Exile (Ezra 2:33; Nehemiah 7:37; Nehemiah 11:36 ). Ono is identified with Kefr' Ana in the wadi Musrara. This broad wadi is called the valley of craftsmen (Nehemiah 11:35 ) and the Plain of Ono (Nehemiah 6:2 ).
