Parbar

Holman Bible Dictionary

(pahr' bahr) Hebrew term of uncertain meaning used only at 1 Chronicles 26:18 . Some translations (KJV, NAS, RSV) merely transliterate the term. Others offer plausible translations: (western) collonade (NRSV, REB); western pavilion (TEV); court to the west (NIV). Suggested renderings of the plural of parbar (or a related term) in 2 Kings 23:11 include: precincts (NAS, NRSV), court (NIV), and suburbs (KJV). It was apparently a road, an open area, or a room near the Temple.
