Pithom
Holman Bible Dictionary
(pi' thahm) Egyptian place name Per-Atum meaning, “mansion or estate of Atum” (an Egyptian god). The only mention of this city in the Bible relates to the plight of the Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 1:11 ). Coupled with the city of Rameses, it becomes an important clue to the Exodus chronology. See Exodus . Some recognize tell el-Retabah as Pithom, but the predominate opinion seems to see tell el-Maskhutah as Pithom, a religious name given Succoth. Papyrus Anastasi mentions Pithom in a report to Merneptah.
