Sergius Paulus
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ssuhr' jih uss paw' luhss) Personal name of proconsul of Cyprus when Paul visited the capital of Paphos on his first missionary journey (Acts 13:6-12 ). Sergius Paulus was under the influence of a sorcerer named Bar-jesus when Paul and Barnabas arrived. Sergius Paulus asked to hear the gospel that the two missionaries were preaching, but the sorcerer tried to keep him from the appointment. Paul temporarily blinded the sorcerer, and Sergius Paulus was converted to Christ.
