Holman Bible Dictionary

(tihm' nuh) Personal name meaning, “holding in check” or “she protects.” 1. Sister of the Horite clan chief Lotan (Genesis 36:22; 1 Chronicles 1:39 ), concubine of Esau's son Eliphaz, and mother of Amalek (Genesis 36:12 ). 2 . Son of Eliphaz (1 Chronicles 1:36; Genesis 36:16 , Teman) and Edomite clan chief (Genesis 36:40; 1 Chronicles 1:51 ). Timna is associated with either Timna in southern Arabia or, following Genesis 36:16 , Teman in southern Edom. It is the name of the capitol of Qataban. 3. A modern name for an ancient copper-mining site fourteen miles north of Elath.
