Bason

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible

BASON (Amer. RV [Note: Revised Version.] ‘basin’). Chiefly the large bowl of bronze used by the priests to receive the blood of the sacrificial victims ( Exodus 27:3; Exodus 29:16 , 1 Kings 7:45 etc.). It is only once found in secular use, if the text is correct ( Amos 6:6 , otherwise LXX [Note: Septuagint.] , see Bowl). Similar bowls or basins of silver were presented by the princes of the congregation ( Numbers 7:13 ff.); those destined for Solomon’s Temple were of gold ( 1 Kings 7:50 ). The basins of Exodus 12:22 , 2 Samuel 17:28 were probably of earthenware. A special washbasin was used by Jesus for washing the disciples’ feet ( John 13:5 ).
