1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Any set of thirteen spoons, usually of silver, with figures of Our Lord and the Apostles on the handle ends. They were favorite baptismal gifts in the 15th and 16th centuries. The place of Judas Iscariot was supplied sometimes by Paul, more often by Matthias.
