Bedford, Gunning Samuel

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Catholic physician, born Baltimore, Maryland, 1806; died New York, 1870. Graduated in medicine from Rutgers College, New York, he taught at Charleston, Albany, and New York where he founded the University Medical College, and established the first free obstetrical clinic for the poor in the country. Two of his obstetrical works were adopted as text-books in America, and were translated into German and French.
