Chamberlains of Honor Extra Urbem

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(outside the city) Instituted under Pius VI, are chosen from the clergy of cities other than Rome, have the title monsignor, belong to the papal household, and have the same vestments, excepting the red hat, as chamberlains of honor, but as they are not able to wear this costume at all times in Rome, they are not then called monsignori, and are only Chamberlains of Honor extra urbem; their present number Isaiah 47.
